John Lennon 2025

On October 9, 2025, Lennon's 85th birthday, was unveiled a set of six different variations of CD´s and LP´s charting his concert at New York's Madison Square Garden which was held on August 30, 1972. It was a little on the spur of Yoko Ono who with John, watched Geraldo Rivera's very moving investigative report on conditions at Willowbrook State School. The school itself needed a massive financial injection to improve the living conditions of its clients, who were mentally handicapped children. In response to the repo, they felt the need to organize a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, which bore the same name as the One to One Foundation. John Lennon performed here in the afternoon and evening program with Elephant's Memory Band and was thus the main star of this charity concert. An audio and video recording was made of the two concerts, but due to the fact that the music critics had rather torn lennon's performance down and he himself had problems with the Nixon administration due to his political album Some Time In New York City and therefore with the renewal of his green card, so his own release did not happen until many years later when Live In New York City album came out. However, Lennon himself thoroughly enjoyed the concert, and as the Madison Square Garden concert later put it, it was the best music he had ever enjoyed playing since the Beatles performed at The Cavern Club or even Hamburg. He literally said: "I wanted to go out and rock my balls on stage! Listen, I'm not going to be a flea-show in my 30´s. I'm not going to stand on stage and sing I Wanna Hold Your Hand. I want to do something for a good cause". And a good thing was accomplished as both concerts raised more than $1.5 million (the equivalent of $11.5 million in 2025) to support children with mental and developmental disabilities.
